Els Focs (The Fire):

The Bonfires of San Juan, The Fires of Canigó, The Dragon of Sant Jordi, the old "fogatges" (old census that counted stoves)..Many of our traditions include fire as a basic element.
The nights of San Juan have always been related to traditions and legends set around fire. So much so, that it is often called La Nit del Foc (the night of fire). It is common belief that the flames keep away and frighten off the imaginary evil beings that wander around that night or have, at least, greater presence that night than during the rest of the year.
