El porró ( The Porron):
A central and essential element of any decent Catalan table. Together with a good piece of bread spread with tomato and a copious selection of cured meats, a “porrón” (drinking vessel) of wine cannot go amiss.
Perhaps the "barretina" (red Catalan hat) would also be a good item by which to identify the Catalans, but we thought that the porrón, which combines gastronomic features, lifestyle and social attitudes, etc., takes on this leading role rather well. It could even be said that knowing how to drink out of a porrón correctly is an attribute of national identity.
